Second Life Reviews Part 2: Dell Precision 5570

Second Life Reviews Part 2 — Dell Precision 5570 refurbished workstation laptop review banner, Saddle Group

Second Life Reviews is a new series where we put our own refurbished laptops to work — for real, not just on paper.

You've read a hundred reviews of brand-new laptops. Every tech site on the internet will tell you how the latest ThinkPad or XPS performs fresh out of the box. But almost nobody tells you what actually matters if you're buying refurbished: does it hold up?

That's what this series is about. We're not going to just hand you a spec sheet and call it a review. We sell these laptops — so we're going to use them the way you would, for real work, over real time, and tell you exactly how it goes. No spin, no filtered marketing angle. If something's mediocre, we'll say so.

Next up: the Dell Precision 5570 — the one we didn't want to give back.

The Unit

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-12800H (12th Gen)
  • RAM: 32GB
  • Storage: 256GB SSD
  • Graphics: NVIDIA RTX A1000 4GB dedicated graphics
  • Display: 15.6" 4K OLED touchscreen
  • Condition: Grade A. Certified refurbished, tested and graded by our team, 1-year warranty included

Where the Latitude 5540 from Part 1 is a business laptop, the Precision 5570 is a workstation-class machine. It adds dedicated NVIDIA graphics, a 4K OLED display and an H-series processor, which is exactly what you want if your day involves a lot of screens and a lot of windows.

The Setup

We didn't baby this one either. We ran the Precision through the same four-display setup as our Latitude 5540 test: a 40" ultrawide, a 22", a 24", and the laptop's own 15.6" 4K OLED touchscreen running alongside them — four displays total, driven off a single laptop.

That's a heavy way to work, and it's exactly the kind of day a workstation-class laptop is built for.

How It Actually Performed

Multi-monitor handling: No lag. Four displays and a lot of windows open at once, and the Precision kept up without hesitation.

The screen: This is the highlight. The 4K OLED panel is very crisp, and video looks amazing on it.

Sound: The speakers sound great.

Keyboard and trackpad: The keys feel really nice to type on, and the trackpad is big. Typing on this laptop is a pleasure.

Battery: Here's the honest part. Our test unit's battery is well worn. The Windows battery report shows a full charge capacity of 43,913 mWh against a design capacity of 84,292 mWh — about 52% of its original capacity. That's well below our bar, and it's exactly why we test every battery: every unit we sell is tested before it ships, and any battery below 80% capacity gets swapped out before the laptop is listed. A unit like this gets a new battery before it reaches you.

Real Talk: Precision 5570 vs. Latitude 5540

The Precision 5570 isn't the right laptop for everyone. If your day is email, browsers, Office apps and video calls, the Latitude 5540 will do the job. The Precision is for people who run several screens and a lot of windows all day, or who care about a great screen for video and creative work. You're paying for dedicated graphics, a 4K OLED display and a more powerful processor, so it's worth buying for the way you actually work.

Verdict

The Precision 5570 isn't just "good for a refurb" — it's the unit we least wanted to give back. No lag across four displays, a crisp 4K OLED screen, great sound, and a keyboard and trackpad that are a pleasure to use. The battery on our test unit was the one weak spot, and it's the kind of thing we fix before a laptop ships.

If you're on the fence about whether refurbished can keep up with a heavy, multi-screen workday — this is exactly the kind of proof we started this series to give you.
